So its earth hour today and I attended an earth hour event at university. it was fun and lovely and we got to hold candles and form the number 60. The 60 signifies 60 minutes which is the amount of time we get to turn the power out. So i manged to take this shot!
So brief history about earth hour? why not!!!!!!
Earth hour was started by the World Wide Fund for Nature. Its mainly about reducing energy consumption. Once a year, (usually end of march) thousands of people group all over the world and turn of all energy comsuming devices (Mostly lights) for an hour. Its really fun and a few games are played.
Major landmarks around the world have taken part in Earth Hour, including the Sydney Opera House, the Great Pyramids, the Empire State Building and the Las Vegas Strip. Even the so-called City of Lights has gone dark, with the Eiffel Tower shutting off its power.
Lights on Toronto's CN Tower were turned off during Earth Hour's first international campaign in 2008, as thousands of people across the city joined in.
The goal, of course, is to inspire people to reduce their energy consumption every day, not by sitting in the dark for an hour each night, but by taking simple steps that can have a dramatic effect.
